          Resume of Prof. A.K. Kapoor

Prof. Dr. A.K. Kapoor did his Graduation in 1973, Post Graduation (1975) and Ph.D. (1981) in Anthropology from University of Delhi, Delhi- 110007, India.

       He was awarded Junior Research Fellowship (1975-80) from University Grants Commission, New Delhi; Senior Research Fellowship (1980-81) and Research Associate (1981-83) from Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi to work on "Effect of High Altitude on Demographic Structure & Health Status among Tribes of Himalayas".

       He was appointed Lecturer in 1983 / 1986, Reader (1991) and Professor (1997) at Department of Anthropology, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007.

       A voracious researcher with diverse areas of interest ranging from Tribal and Himalayan studies, Cultural Biology to Health Anthropology, Human Rights, Forensic Science and Forensic Anthropology. He has carried out extensive and intensive field work among tribes, castes, minority & religious groups and ethnic groups in different states of India namely Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Daman & Diu, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal (Uttarakhand), West Bengal, Nepal,  North America and United Kingdom. He has been the recipient of several research grants from various research organizations and insitutions. Fourteen students have been awarded for their Ph.D's under his supervision and guided many M. Phil. Student (Part-I) for their degrees. He got various academic distinctions and honours in international and national seminars, conferences and workshops. He has been on the editorial board of national and international journals since 1983. He has held various academic professional and administrative positions in different capacities from time to time in India and abroad. He has a lot of experiences in organizing various national and international seminars, conferences & workshops. He is a life member of various academic bodies in India and foreign countries.

       He has contributed to the corporate life of the various institutions in the form of curriculum development, cultural activity, community & extension services, Lok Sabha and State assembly elections, special lectures and other various committees of Govt. of India from time to time.

       He has published in addition to ten books / edited volumes, more than 170 research papers and articles in national and international journals / edited volumes etc. He has attended more than seventy five national and international seminars, conferences, workshops and symposiums. He has been visiting fellow to few universities in India and abroad. He has travelled to North America and European countries for various academic activities. He is consultant to many national and international NGO's. He has presided over various national and international academic, cultural and sports functions besides chief guests and guest of honours etc.

       He has been awarded Ruchi Award (1991); UGC Research Award (1999); and Life Time Education Achievement Award (2006).
