Activities and Achievements
The department of Students' Welfare was established in the University Campus in the year of 1993, previously it was situated in the M.L.B. Arts and Commerce College Campus. The department is providing services, counseling and training to the students community and plays a multifunctional role with an objective to develop overall personality of the students and through them generate awareness on issues of national importance and national integration. The university has 117 affiliated college including postgraduate and professional colleges, covering seven district of Madhya Pradesh and has approximately 50,000 regular students and 30,000 private students studying in various streams viz.- Social Science, Humanities, Commerce, Home Science, Science, Arts, Engineering, Medical, Ayurved, Physical Education and Law etc. Main feature of the department of Students' Welfare is -
Various Youth Festival had been organized by the University to provide a platform for the students to exhibit their talents. In 1997-98 West Zone Interuniversity Youth Festival was Organising by the university, sponsored by Ministry of Youth and Culture, Govt. of India, in which 700 students of 25 university participated covering Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujrat, Goa and Rajasthan. This festival was inaugurated by Smt. Suba Laxmi renowned Classical Dancer and wife of Sarod Maestro Ustad Amzad Ali Khan with the performance by their son Ayan Ali Khan. The five day festival ended with a grand valediction shown of performing arts, which was graced by the octo generation Col. G. S. Dhillon a legendary freedom fighter of Indian National Army and a close associate of Netaji Subhash Chandra Boss. In the session 1999-2000 M. P. State Interuniversity Youth Festival was also organized by the Jiwaji University, Gwalior. Which was inaugurated noted classical vocal singer of Gwalior Gharana Ms. Meeta Pandit, Grand daughter Padma Bhushan Krishna Rao Pandit and prizes were distributed by Hon'ble Governor H.E. Dr. Bhai Mahavir, Chancellor of M.P. Universities. In the year 1997 a series of programme were also organized to celebrate the Fifty Year of India's Independence the celebration covered various workshops and symposium throughout the year. In the year 2000 again for the second time the University organized West Zone Inter University Youth Festival, which was inaugurated by Minister of State for Defence, Govt. of India. 800 students of 35 universities from Maharashtra, Gujrat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Goa participated. Late Maharaja of Gwalior HH Madhav Rao Scindia, Deputy Leader of Opposition in Indian Parliament was the Chief Guest and he stayed in the function for more then three hours and distributed the prizes for the winners.
From the session 2001-02 the Office of the Dean Students' Welfare has started organizing workshop in Drama, Mime, Skit, Singing ( Classical and Light Vocal ) and on Folk/Tribal dances to expose students to know more technical details of the cultural events. Also in March 2002 the Students' Welfare Department organized an Inter University National Youth Seminar on " Commitment of Youth to Social Welfare and Society ", sponsored by Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi and Commonwealth Youth Programme ( Asia Centre ) about 55 students from 36 universities participated in this Youth Seminar and presented their serious views on " Commitment of Youth to Social Welfare Society". From the session 2001-02 the department has started an university coir, which allows students interested in playing / learning / percussion or non percussion instrument and solo or group singing. They meet and practice every evening from 5.00 P.M. onwards. Students of this university regularly participated in various other festivals like International Youth Festival " Ghoomar of Rajasthan ", Chandigarh University Festival, Ishwari Vishwavidyalaya Festival, Mount Abu, Rajasthan and Command Harmony festival award, Inter State Youth Festival " Gavri " of M.L.S. University of Udaipur, M. P. State Inter University Youth Festivals, Nohta ( Damoh ) Utsav In the literary events the university regularly participated in All India Indira Gandhi Debate Competition, India Council of World Affairs Debate Competition, National Cooperative Society of India Debate Competition, Gandhi Memorial Wardha Debate Competition, Vivekanand Memorial Debate Competition in Kolkata and many others and have brought laurel for the university. Some of other events which university regularly organized are All India Mahakavi Bhavbhoti Samaroh and Cultural Calendar of the State Govt. in all the 117 affiliated colleges of the university. Now to channalize the students with cultural but of mind the Students' Welfare Department is going to start one year Post Graduate Diploma in Performing Arts so that interested talents get opportunities to going good national institution of Acting, Music, the Arts and Cultural.
