2. Objectives of the Department

The department of Physical Education was established in 1972 under the jurisdiction of Jiwaji University, Gwalior. The department has been functioning as the Prime Nucleus for the organisation of sports activities in various sports disciplines at college, university and National level. The Deptt. has established it self as a leading centre in sports in the region and is presently catering to the sports need of Children, Youths and old People of Greater Gwalior by organising regular Yogic classes and scientific coaching camps in different games and sports. The University has got two floodlight basketball courts with portable uprights, three floodlight tennis courts, four vollyball courts (caged) one hockey ground, one grassy football ground, standard cricket groud with turf wicket, one Kho-Kho, two Kabaddi, one Handball, one Indoor hall for Table Tennis, Judo, Aerobic, Badminton, Wrestling and Weight Lifting and a 400 m. grassy track.

The newly constructed Gymnasium which is one among the best in the Indian Universities with all modern facilities has been named as Madhav Rao Scindia Gymnasium.

  4. To Provide Educational and vocational guidance in the field of physical Education and sports to Indian youths.
  5. To promote mass participation in physical Education and sports among school children.
  6. To develop and promote programmes of Physical Education, sports and Aerobics in Schools, Colleges and universities of India.
  7. To Impart high quality of Aerobics Education to Indian Youths to disseminate knowledge of health and fitness and concept of Fit people, Fit Nation, in India.
  8. To undertake research projects of National importance to improve the standard of sports performance of Indian Sports Persons.

Scope of the Courses :

            The successful candidates of the above courses shall be well qualified for the appointment as Sports officers, Assistant Director's, Deputy Director's, Director's of Physical Education, Supervisor's, and fitness consultants in School, Colleges Universities, Industrial establishments, Commerial firms, Governmental and non-governmental agencies which are engaged in promoting physical education and sports in India. The candidates after completion of thes

3. Eligibility for Admission

(i) Only those candidates shall be eligible to apply for admission to these courses who have successfully passed their graduation from this University or any other University of India or abroad whose courses are equivalent and are recognised by Jiwaji University.

(ii) The application should have secured at least 40% marks in graduation examination, which shall be considered as the minimum educational qualification for admission in the Bachelor of Physical Education and certificate in Aerobics and fitness. A relaxation of 5% marks shall be given to those applicants who have represented India at International level competitions duly recognised by Indian Olympic Association (I.O.A.) and for candidates belonging to Sc, ST and OBC categories.

(iii) Applicant must qualify the medical test of the university before joining the course.

(iv) The applicant should not be more than 25 years of age but in case of inservice candidates, the age limit shall be relaxable upto 40 years. Inservice candidates have to obtain necessary permission from the competent authority and have to take one year have from the parent Deptt. to complete the course. The no objection certificate has to be submitted before the entrance examination.

 Medical Fitness Test

Each candidate will be medically examined by the University medical doctor and only those found fit

will be admitted to these courses.

Written Test of Sport General Knowlede     Total 75 Marks

A candidate should score a minimum of 40% marks. The written test is to test the ability and

aptitude of a candidate in general knowledge about Sports, Aerobic, and Phy.  Edu. The test shall be

of one hour's duration.

Motor Fitness Test :     Total 100 marks

The test items will be as under and each item shall be of 20 marks.

(a)50 M. Run. (Test of Speed).

(b) Medicine Ball throw, (Test of Explosive strength of Shoulder). 

     (Backward double arm overhead throw from standing position)

(c) Standing Broad Jump, (Test of explosive strength of legs.)

(d) Shuttle Run (4x10M.), (Test of ability).

(e) 600 M. Run/Walk, (Test of cardiovascular efficiency).

Sports Performance Test      Total 100 Marks

Each candidate shall be tested for sports performance by core group of experts in any one of the

game/sports as mentioned below :

Hocky, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Badmintion, Cricket, Judo, Kho-Kho Kabaddi, Gyamnastics,

Swimming, Hand Ball, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Weight Lifting, Best Physique,  Wrestling, Chess,

Aerobics & Athletics.

The allocation of marks for personal sports achievement shall be on the basis of production of

certificate about the level of Participation by the candidate in those games/sports which are

recognised by Indian Olympic Association (I.O.A.)

Those students who have won Ist, 2nd or 3rd place at Junior nationals senior nationals or at all

India University competitions in the preceeding three years will be granted admission

directly provided they fullfill minimum educational qualifications for the course.

Important Note : (1) The marking for practical Motor fitness test shall be done in accordance with the norms developed and revised by the School of Studies in Physical Education and Sports Sciences from time to time. (2) For personal sports achievements, the candidate shall be awarded marks only for the highest performance in any one of the game he has played.

Admission List :

            The list of qualified candidates on the basis of merit to be admitted to these course will be put up on the notice board soon after the completion of admission tests. Candidates therefore should come fully prepared to join course if selected. Admission will be confirmed only on payment of tuition fees and other dues, within 3 days of admission in cash or in the form of a demand draft in favour of Registrar, Jiwaji University, Payable at Central Bank of India, J.U. Branch, Gwalior. Nonpayment of fees or failure to report on prescribed dates will automatically cancel the admission.

            If some vacancies arises later on, the order of merit wil be strictly followed from the remaining candidates and only those who have obtained atleast 40% of marks will be considered for admission.

Medium of Instruction and Examination :- The medium of instruction shall be English owever the medium of examination for courses shall be both English and Hindi.

Rules of Admission for Master of Physical Education

(M.P.Ed     Regular - two Years)

 

1.   Elibibility Rules :

        1.1.      A Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from a recognised University or a Post-graduate Diploma in Physical Education of atleast one year's duration awarded by a recognised University or Board appointed by Education Department of a State with atleast 50% of aggregate marks. A diploma candidate must submit a certificate from the institution attended, specifically mentioning the date of admission and completion of the diploma course.

        1.2.   Those candidates who have obtained a diploma by attending a condensed course after taking a certificate in Physical Eduction are not eligible for admission.

         1.3.     Those who have represented their respective Universitities inthe Interuniversity Tournaments of their states in Senior National Tournaments (Sports Federation) in the games/sports included in the SOSPESS curriculum and those belonging to scheduled castes/tribs may be considered for admission if they have secured atleast 45% of aggregate marks in BPE, BPEd or DPEd examination.

         1.4.    The age of Candidates should be atleast nineteen years on Ist Sept. 2002 to be eligible  for the course.

          1.5.      There shall be only 50 seats in MPE previous Regular course each year.

 

2.   Criteria of Admission :

          2.1    The eligible candidates will be called for an interview and selection trials on the break up of marks for various items will be as follows.

          2.2    Written Test       (2 Hour's Duration)         100 Marks

                The written test will be to test the ability,aptitude and knowledge of candidates in the areas of sports sciences taught at BPE, BPEd and DPEd level, and latest trends in Phy Education and Sports. The minimum marks required to pass the written test shall be 40 marks.

          2.3    Sports performance test    100 Marks

               Each candidate shall be tested for sports performance by a core group of experts in any of the following games.

              Hockey, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Badmintion, Cricket, Judo, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Gymnastics, Swimming, Hand Ball, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Weight Lifting, Best Physique, Wrestling,Chess, Aerobic & Athletics.

             2.4    The minimum marks to be secured for passing shall be 50 marks.

 

         2.5   The test in one game/sport to judge the suitability of the candidates to undertake specialization in the game/sport in Part II of course structure. The SOSPESS reserves the right to delete any game or sport from the list on account of administrative feasibility.

           2.6  In case any candidate desiring to change a game/sport for specialization after admission, his/her suitability will be tested by the expert committee.

         2.7    A candidate should obtain atleast 50% ofthe total points to be eligible for admission to the course, however SC/ST and OBC candidates and international sports men shall be required to obtain 45% of the total to be eligible for admission.

           2.8   Those students who have won Ist, 2nd, 3rd place at the junior Nationals. Nationals or All India Inter univarsity Competitions in the preceeding three years will be granted admission directly provided they fulfil the minimum educational requirements.

 

         2.9 Medical fitness Test

                The candidates who have qualified and are in the merit shall be medically examined bythe medical board appointed by the deptt. for this purpose only. Those candidates shall be permitted to join the course, who are found medically fit.

         2.10 Personality test cum Interview :    25 Marks

                The candidate shall have to face interview committe for personality test cum interview. The candidate shall be awarded marks out 25 by eachof the committee members independently.
