Profile of the Department

Department Computer Lab

     Department Computer Lab

The School of Mathematics and Allied Sciences (SOMAAS) established in 1978, is an internationally recognized centre of Biomathematics and a well known centre for imparting higher education in the fields of mathematics, computer science and Information technology. With the growth of allied sub disciplines like mathematical modelling, mathematical ecology, mathematical epidemiology, numerical methods etc., the School has developed a multidisciplinary research group with the support of major research projects sponsored by UGC,DST & MPCST and also with collaborative research endeavour.

Looking to the needs of the society and trends of industries, a course  in Computer Application was started in 1988. which later was replaced by an advanced course  M. Sc. (Computer Science). The School was among the first few centres to start such course in Madhya Pradesh. Therefore it received a good response and the most of the pass outs from previous batches are absorbed in prestigious institutions like DRDO, IBM, HCL in India and in different software companies of abroad. In an attempt to cope up with modern developments of twenty first century a new course entitled M.Sc. Tech. (Industrial Mathematics with Computer Application) was started in 2005 which has been sponsored by UGC under the innovative programmes. This course will provide the opportunity to the students to get aquainted with  industrial and environmental problems. This will generate employment opportunities in various industries. Since last  two years the department has started Ph.D. programme in Computer Science also.

The teachers and research scholars of SOMAAS have  received  various awards and fellowships including Commonwealth Fellowship, Boyscast Fellowship for visit to foreign countries like U.K. & U.S.A.

The teachers of the department have visited foreign countries like U.S.A., U.K., Italy, Singapore, China, Panama, Turkey under various academic assignments. The prestigious Fellowship of Ramanujan Mathematical Society was conferred to one of the senior faculty members. Several best  paper presentation awards have been bagged by the students of SOMAAS at various annual conferences  of ISTAM, MPCST, Indian Sciences Congress and Vijanana Parishad of India.

The school has organized sixteen national and international conferences & symposia including three  orientation programmes and one refresher course  for teachers. The school has been visited by Scientists from various institutions over the world including countries like U.S.A., U.K. , Canada and Singapore.

Thirty five scholars have been awarded Ph.D at SOMAAS, and 10 scholars have  passed NET/SLET examinations.

The faculty members have more than hundred research papers to their credit published in reputed journals.

The school has well furnished class rooms, AC seminar  room , computer center and other facilities too. The School also has a specialized and up-to-date library of its own housing 7000 books.

As a special feature of M.Sc.(computer Science) and M.Sc.Tech programme all the students of final semester are required to undergo training in the industries for a minimum period of four months. This is highly satisfying that our pass outs so far have been received with proper status and assignment in their respective  jobs.
