The School of Studies in Biochemistry came into existence in 1986 and offers Postgraduate and Doctoral Programs in Biochemistry. The school is one of the few ones in the campus that produces students of high academic distinctions every year. The postgraduate curriculum is updated almost every alternate year to infuse the latest developments into the curricula. The School attracts students from all over the country and the admission to PG course of the School is made on the basis of the merit in the index calculated on the graduate examination to ensure admission to the students with academic competence. The teaching program of the school has been on the sound footing since the time of its inception because of sincere and dedicated faculty of the School. A research project work has been incorporated in the curriculum of the course. The School owns a reasonably good library and books worth Rs 1 lakh are added every year. Good infrastructure for advance research in modern field of Biochemistry is available in the School. The proposed thrust areas for research in the School include Molecular Biology/ Biochemical toxicology/ Genetic Engineering/ Reproductive Immunology/ Immunodiagnostics/ Pesticide Biochemistry/ Tissue Culture/ Environmental Biotechnology/ Clinical Endocrinology and Tropical Diseases. The School attracted research grants to the tune of more than Rs Two Crore from the national and international funding agencies. The School is actively involved in collaborative research programs with sister Schools of the campus and other institutions of the city such as Defense Research and Development Establishment and with other institutes such as Delhi University/ Jawaharlal Nehru University/ Banaras Hindu University/ Industrial Toxicology Research Centre/ JALMA Institute of Leprosy and Other Mycobacterial Diseases/ Pt Ravi Shankar Shukla University and Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences etc. The School has developed MOU with various national laboratories for training to the students of the school. The School envisioned developing into a nucleus of advanced research in the years to come and all efforts are set in motion in that direction. The School is recognized by Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology for financial support under FIST Program.
The students of this School are working at various prestigious research institutions in India and abroad for their Ph.D. after qualifying National level tests (like CSIR NET, ICMR JRF, GATE, entrance tests of JNU, DRDE, BHU etc) at INMAS, DIPAS, BARC, ISSER, AIIMS, IGIB, JALMA, CDRI, IITR, BHU, JNU, to name a few. The alumni are well placed on regular positions at ISSER Bhopal, ISSER Bhubaneswar, Punjab University, CDRI, IIT Roorkee, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, AYUSH, Sunpharmaandvarious Government Colleges etc. and several well-known private companieslike Dabur, TUV-SUD South Asia, Acums Pharmaceuticals, Way2Solutions Pvt Ltd. etc.
